Looks like I'm long overdue for an update of my bio here. I'm Ward Jenkins and I'm an artist & illustrator with over 25 years of experience working in both the animation and children's book industries. I was born and raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, moved out to Portland, OR in 2007 for work in the animation industry and eventually moved back to the Atlanta area in 2014. Since 2009, I've been illustrating children's books for various publications and since 2014 have been working on various animated TV productions as a storyboard artist.
I live with my photographer/writer wife, Andrea and together we have two kids: Ava and Ezra - both of which are now young adults (time flies, doesn't it?).
A few things about me: I love collecting old ephemera, cookbooks, children's books, and whatnot from the 1940s to the 60s. I'm a big fan of mid-century art & design. I also love old school hip-hop and graffiti. Go figure.
I've illustrated several picture books and plan to do more. For a list of my picture books you can go here. For chapter books, go here. I'm repped by Jennifer Laughran of the Andrea Brown Literary Agency. If you'd like for me to illustrate a book for you, contact her. She'd love to hear from you.
I have a site where you can see a lot of my work, both illustrated and animated.

Thanks to Emma for directing us to this great blog!
ReplyDeleteJust watched Twice Upon A Time that I finally found on DVD last year and shared with my grandchildren. We (boomers) watched it with our kids on HBO when it first came out. There’s a great commentary option to hear the animators talk about the process. Googling for more details on the process, I found your blogposts from 2007. Wonderful background to share with my tween grandson who is very interested in stop-motion animation, has taken classes and produced several (very short) movies of his own. Thanks for the detail on one of our favorites, and inspiration beyond watching.
