Ava Thursday: Mommy and Daddy with car
Ava says that this is Mommy and Daddy getting in the car to look for Ava - although it looks as if Ava may be in the house, anyway (see her silhouette up in the window). Notice that there are word balloons next to Mommy and me. I'm not sure where she got this, but the one thing I've noticed about the way Ava draws is that she pays close attention to anything that you draw if you draw with her. I think I drew a character saying something one time, with an accompanying word balloon, and Ava asked me what that was. She's now picked up on the fact that if one of her characters say anything, then they must have a word balloon. The house and car are objects that she's picked up from her very talented cousin, Matt. When Matt and his sister, Naomi, came to visit during the holidays, Ava sat on the floor with Matt and drew page after page of people, houses, cars and alien spaceships. It was quite an experience for my girl. Ava produced some very elaborate and very creative artwork for several days after her cousins' visit. Expect to see more of this artwork soon!

Awesome stuff! I wonder what you and your wife are saying...
ReplyDeletewow. I am honored to be the subject of one of ava's drawings. she has just informed me that mommy and daddy are saying, 'we've got to get in the car to find ava!'... (she's playing one serious game of hide and seek here)...
ReplyDeleteI am now very proud to say that Mandy and I have our very own Ava "original" on our fridge. It's a portrait of Mandy and, I believe, is a very faithful representation of my lovely wife. May I post on my blog?
ReplyDeleteThis IS a serious game of Hide and Seek! Ava really has got quite an eye for detail. She's got a great style... especially when drawing Mom and Dad. Like I said before, awesome stuff.
ReplyDeleteI like how Ward's dialogue balloon looks like the "Energy Monster" from Johnny Quest (sans eye)
ReplyDeleteOf course, only Clay will get that one, and he isn't even reading this blog! Oh, well, anyhoo, great stuff Ward; always a guaranteed smile. There's nothing as refreshing as art that's utterly devoid of artifice, tricks, and pretensions. Ava isn't trying to put anyting over on anybody, she's not trying to make the rent, and she's not trying to please some fool client who doesn't know his/her posterior from a hole in the ground. I love Ava Thursday.
Hey Ward- In a future post, I'd like to see you comment on the "Loonatics":

I'm too angry about it to be articulate. But I'd like to hear your views on the matter.
I love the outfits Ava has drawn for you and your wife. Her attention to detail is awesome. You look a bit like an insane Mr. Rodgers.....
ReplyDeleteYour daughter has an amazing talent! I can't wait until my son can start expressing himself without using slobber :) My fridge will be SOO full. Thank you for sharing this beautiful masterpiece!!!
ReplyDeleteThe shapes in the upper part of this drawing look very Miro-esque. And that's a hilarious Ward on the bottom. You have a great expression of concern there. Another all-around winner.
ReplyDeleteFrom the mother of the aforementioned "cousins"... You failed to mention that Matt is 7 years old and has the noted distinction of being a Ward Redux!! :) Seriously, its like raising my own brother sometimes -- and yeah, my boy is wicked talented...as is his uncle...and as I am sure his cutie patootie cousin Ava will continue to be. Thanks for sharing the Ava-goodness. Feel free to post some of the Matt stuff -- I'd like to see that alien pic they were working on last trip down :)...
ReplyDeleteFrom your sis
After posting, I realized that I forgot to mention the ages of Matt and Naomi. Sorry about that, Amy! And don't you worry-- that one picture as well as plenty others will make their appearance on Ava Thursday soon.
ReplyDeleteall the people posting stuff on this site are like 40 and you are slobering overthis little kids drawing..............Not to be insulting or any thing it really is ok
ReplyDeleteTo gereldine-- yes, Ava is my 4 year-old daughter. She is famous to me and my wife, Andrea. Being that this is my blog and that I can do anything I want on this thing, I decided that Ava has produced some really interesting artwork and I thought that it would be nice to share her work to the public.
ReplyDeleteTo anonymous-- you are well entitled to your opinion, however, most of the people that visit and respond to Ava's work as well as anything else on this blog are not "like 40." A good amount of my visitors are in their 20's to 30's. And so what if we would be "like 40?" So what.
Again-- this is my blog, wherein I CAN POST ANYTHING I WANT. It must be nice to be so young and ignorant--er, I mean innocent. Don't worry-- one day when you have kids of your own and they start to create characters and learn to mix colors on their own, YOU'LL UNDERSTAND. In the meantime, I suggest that if you have anything insulting to say, sometimes it's best not to say anything at all.
Thanks for visiting.
