Ava Thursday: Guy on many-legged thing

Most of the time Ava has a story to tell with her drawings. This one, however, is a mystery. There is no story, for when I asked her what is happening in this picture, she just shrugged and said, "I don't know." That's cool with me. Hey - I'm not going to push her. No pressure, right?

  1. I love this picture Ava! The little guy looks so pleased that he is riding that crazy many legged thing. Thanks for letting your dad share your pictures with us every Thursday. Keep up the good work! Love from Claire (www.loobylu.com)

  2. To be honest, I'd prefer we all drove many legged things rather than cars. Great picture!

  3. I'm mostly curious about the little house in the back and the funny starburst just below and right of the the sun (at least I think that's what that smiley face is is...) Anyhoo, very charming stuff. Why waste your money on SCAD? Just keep the craft paper a-comin, Ward.

  4. Wow. Thanks for the plug, Claire! I was going to tell you that I loved Amelia's Roz the other day. Very creative. And Robert--I'm telling ya, who needs art school? With the amount they charge for classes these days...sheesh! Actually, Ava's teaching ME now.

(And having a many-legged thing would be so much cooler than a car. An automobile is soooo 20th century, you know?)

Thanks for checking out the artwork, guys. Ava's been very much under the weather yesterday and today, so it was a nice shot in the arm for her to see her work on the computer again.

  5. Wow...I want to thank you for that. That really brightened my day, made me smile and chuckle. It's great to be reminded of the incredible imagination that kids seem to inately have...it's a beautiful thing!

  6. The best drawings I ever made were ones with no story. They were just shapes that somehow pleased (and resembled things, sure, but didn't necessarily make sense). That really was a great drawing. Don't tell her she needs a story, that might inhibit her. Besides, you can always make one up later.

  7. Oh, no doubt, Mr. Snitch - I never force Ava to think that she needs a story for every drawing that she makes, she just has always had one when she does. Always been that way. It's probably from reading picture books - what with having pictures always accompanying a story.

And by the way. she has now informed me that the guy is juggling sticks, and that circle that looks like the sun is actually the moon - next to a star, of course.

"i don't know"...a lot of times she'll try to spin it with "its a secret".

digging the photo--i am going to enjoy seeing her progress!

  12. I am beginning to think that Ava needs to set up her own blog as a nod to what has become a pretty faithful following!

I think that this is a lovely drawing. I want to second what Robert said. Who needs SCAD when you've got this kind of interest in creating beautiful art this early in life? Mandy and I were talking the other day about how easliy storytelling comes to children. They don't seem to be worried about things like practicality, believability, etc... They just CREATE! Amazing work!

  13. Rawk on Ava! That is the swankiest conceptual piece with no meaning I have ever seen.

The only thing I love more than a drawing from one of my boys is when they hand one to me and say 'I made this for you.' I could just DIE from total cuteness overload.

  14. I would immediately patent the many legged thing it is obviously very popular with everyone..Then sell it to the highest bidder on ebay. Your daughters future in college will be set.

  15. Ummmmmm, no offense or anything but i think she might have got that many legged thing from a movie called "Totaro". But i might be wrong sooo what ever. it looks good.

  16. Is the guy on the legged thing juggling ? He looks like he is tossing something in the air. And where is he going on the legged thing? It reminds me of a parade of some sort.
I think the smiling sun in the background is a very positive note.
To me, this is a very happy, fun picture.
