My character was Rod Rescueman. I took ownership of Rod largely because no one wanted him. His design was so awkward for animation, but hey "I'm here to what and where is she?". Two other bits I was sort of proud of was Mum attacked by scotch tape in the Nightmare Sequence and Scuzzbopper being pulled through the hangman's noose where all his bodily juices are pushed up into the balls on his jester hat, then exploding. That was fun!

We were for the most part a bunch of young, egoless artists and animators trying to eek out a living in the Bay Area in a pre-Simpsons animation era. As you might expect, we laughed our way through the process which to this day was the hardest thing I ever did. Lumage may look good, but its a frikken pain in the ass. Think small bedrooms (we created the film in a two story house!), hot lights, tiny pieces of material, tweezers, Spray Mount and Mr Bill (the toxic solvent we all used every day). This would definitely not be legal today.

But hey we were in "showbiz" and there was no other game in town…I must say I have been quite surprised and encouraged by the amount of kids, now adults who loved the film, though I suspect most were put in front of the TV by their parents and Twice became the pacifier that the Lion King was for my kids.

In the end it was the people that made it all bearable, some of which get little or no credit for their work in the film….including the talented Will Noble, the uncertain Pat Maloney, the irascible Peter Crosman, the Maestro Carlo Marchiori and the irreverent and gone too soon Doug Haynes.

Best to all my Twice friends and those that watched it…to the light and curse the pain!

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00197212064855543526noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8984824.post-31874504989033350522011-07-28T22:00:04.659-07:002011-07-28T22:00:04.659-07:00I watched this as a kid anytime it aired on HBO. Man, what amazing memories this all brings up. Our little music studio was in a school around the corner from Korty Films and John K. and Bill C. and Chuck Swenson would always come over and we'd play them the latest ideas that we were about to take to Abbey Road for the LSO to perform. We were broke so we only had Cheeze Whiz squirt bottle paste on crackers to eat for them. Brian Narelle and I became motorcycle riding buds for a while after that. So many lovely, gentle people at Korty Films! Great interview, you guys are the best to keep the dream alive for a new generation.
